Happy Thanksgiving

I know it's not Thanksgiving for all of my friends, so for you guys, Happy Thursday! :)

We made it safely to Lisa and Scott's house yesterday at 11:30 in the morning. Yep. We got up at 3:30 a.m. I'm crazy like that. Needless to say, slept like a rock last night.

Good smells are coming from the kitchen. My brother in law is cooking up an amazing meal once again. Can't wait to eat myself into a food coma!

Hope you all have a fabulous day!

Show Me the Money

I've never really been a Vegas kind of person. I think I have been there maybe 3 times in my entire life. The last time we went was at least 15 years ago but it was over Fourth of July weekend and there were ten billion people there. Also, it was hotter than the face of the sun. Blech.

I can’t even remember if I had fun. Mostly I remember the crushing crowds of people and the heat.

I’ve never been a gambler either. I like my money too much to put it into a machine and have only a chance at getting it back. I tend to be a very lucky person though, so you would think I would at least be open to giving it a try. But not so much. Plus I simply don’t have the disposable income to be throwing around.

I was kind of surprised to to find out that online gambling websites are so prevalent(and popular).

There’s this website called CasinoVegas where you can play Vegas style games from the comfort of your own home.

I’m not sure how I feel about this.

I was under the impression that for most people half the thrill of gambling was the atmosphere? Being surrounded by other people, the blinking lights, the sound of the machines when they pay out. (I was going to say “the sound of the coins clinking after a win” but I’m pretty sure it’s all electronic now). Online gambling doesn't have any of that.

Not to mention the fact that this seems like it could cause serious issues for someone with a gambling problem.

I like to play games online. I play a fair amount of games on FaceBook, and for awhile I belonged to an online site where you could play all sorts of games for “points”. I never figured out what these points were for, except to show the other players how much time you spent online. Someone with over a million points obviously spends more time playing online than someone with my measly 100,000. I guess you can also use these points to buy stuff to decorate your profile, but I never got into that.

This particular website has many of the same games as the site I used to play on. But on the VegasRed site you put actual money into your account and play with it.

The online gambling seems to work on the same principal as the site I played on, except you are playing with actual money. So if you win, you win actual money. That would be nice. They even try and hook you in by offering a “bonus” of a certain amount of dollars for signing up.

But obviously if you lose, you lose actual money.

Yeah, no thanks.

As much as the thought of possibly "hitting it big" appeals to me(and I have had friends who have gone to casinos and won large sums of money), I simply can't bring myself to take that kind of chance.

Like I said before, I like my money too much and I have far to little of it.

I’ll stick with my online solitaire games.

Pity Party

Last week Joe went on two job interviews. I was so hopeful he would get one of them.

So. Hopeful.

Last night when Joe came to pick me up from work he told me that they had called. He didn't get the jobs.

I was so disappointed.

So. Disappointed.

There were tears. Lots of tears.

And a general feeling of gloom and doom that carried into this morning.

A total pity party ensued. There was moping involved.

Later in the day Joe decided I needed to stop moping around and he dragged me to the Mall with him where they were having a job fair.

It was a total bust. There were supposed to be 30 prospective employers there. There were about half that. Three different booths that Joe approached weren't even hiring.

Ummmmmmm............excuse me but what are you DOING here then? Isn't the whole point of a job fair for businesses in need of employees to find people to hire? Perhaps I am mistaken.

Anyway.

After we went to the job fair we walked around the Mall. While we were there we saw Santa. Times must have been slow for him because he was standing outside his house and not sitting on his throne.

Upon seeing him I said(possibly shouted):

SANT-AAAAA!!! IT'S SANTA! I KNOW HIM!

Sorry for the poor quality. Cell phone pic.

You know. From the movie Elf. When I turned to say something to Joe, he was totally walking ahead of me, looking the other way, pretending not to know me. Heh.

If you can't embarrass your spouse in public, then who can you?

I have since snapped out of my funk. I'm done having my pity party. A pretzel and some sour jelly bellys may or may not have had something to do with it.

I have to believe that he will find a job. I can't give up hope.

Here's the scene I was acting out, in case you have no idea what I'm talking about. This movie cracks me up!

Thank You

My husband was in the Navy when we met.

He only served two and a half years and he was never deployed so he said is doesn't count.

I say it does count.

My Dad was also in the military.

Today I want to say thank you to all those who have served and are serving our country.

Thank you.

I have already picked up a couple of boxes of Christmas cards for the Holiday Mail for Heroes program.

Won't you join me? You have until December 7th to send the cards in.

Christmas Card pictures

My friend and co-worker DeAnn took some pictures of us for our Christmas cards at the beach this weekend.

She did a wonderful job. Here's a few.

Thank you so much DeAnn! We are so very happy with how they turned out.

Now I must decide on which one to use!

Halloween Pumpkin

This was from one of those "Pumpkin Masters" kits.

The pattern was listed as "easy".

It was not.

It took me over an hour to trace and cut out. But I'm happy with the way it turned out.

We were supposed to go to the movies last night. Joe said he wasn't in the mood to give out candy to the cute little kids in costume this year.

That was fine by me but I ended up not feeling well so we stayed home again.

I feel fine today. That actually worries me a little. That used to happen to me all the time before my kidney disease went into remission(feel awful, be sure I was coming down with something, and then feel totally fine the next day. It is actually one of the warning signs of the type of kidney disease that I have).

Luckily I am having some blood work done next week so I won't have to wait too long to find out the results. I'm trying not to think(worry) about it.

In the end we didn't have to worry about any cute little kids in costumes because we only had about 3 groups of trick or treaters come by and they were all around 8th grade and above.
Not cute at all :)

Today we are going to the beach to have our Christmas Card photos taken. I'm trying to get a head start on the holiday madness. That doesn't mean I won't wait until the week before Christmas to mail them out ;)
