Halloween craft

Last week someone ordered a banner from me on Esty.  Things have been kind of dormant over there so it was kind of a nice surprise when I got the e-mail informing me of the order.

It was an order for a Chinese New Year Banner.  My first thought was "Boy this person is really thinking ahead" but then I realized it will be here before you know it!  The holidays are right around the corner and they always seem to fly by so quickly.

I came very close to buying some Christmas cards at Michael's yesterday.  They were cute, and in the dollar bin and I had them in my basket even, but then I chickened out and put them back.  I'm just not ready to make a commitment like that yet.  I can't even think about Christmas until after Halloween.

Anyway, making the banner put me in a crafty mood and I decided while I was at Michael's I would pick up a couple of things to make this Halloween craft I saw. (On Pinterest of course).

So here it is:

Pumpkin seeds using orange tic tacs.  Aren't they cute?  I copied them almost exactly how I saw them done and I am really happy with how they came out.  They are super easy too.  Here's how to make them:

Here's what you will need:

--Container(s) of orange tic tacs, however many you want to make.
I bought a package of 8 at the grocery store.  These are the "Big Packs" which are a little bit larger than the regular containers of Tic Tacs.  The larger box made them a little easier to work with.

--1 sheet of decorative paper.  This is a black and white damask print I found at Michael's, but any cute Halloween paper would do.

--1 piece of orange cardstock

-1 sheet of pumpkin embellishments.  I found these stickers in the Halloween craft aisle at Michael's but the original projects I saw used some really cute little Jack O' Lantern buttons.

--Black ribbon.  This is velvet ribbon I got in the dollar bin.

First cut your strips of paper.  These are 1 and 3/8 inches wide by 4 inches long.  If you are using the smaller containers of Tic Tacs, I'm guessing  these measurements would be slightly narrower and shorter.

Trace your pumpkins.  I drew these free hand but I'm sure you could find a template online, or just use circles.  I traced these on the back side of the card stock so you wouldn't see the pencil marks after I cut them out.

Sorry for the crummy pictures.  I took all of these with my cell phone.

Cut out your pumpkins and color the stems green.  You can distress them with a little ink too, as I did here, or just leave them orange.

Write the saying on them with a thin Sharpie marker.

Glue the strips onto the tic tac containers.  I found it easier to bend the paper around the containers and then crease the bends a little before gluing so they didn't pop off while they were still wet.  I used regular scrapbook glue and held them in place for a few minutes and they stuck just fine.

Tie the ribbons around them.  I went with a simple knot.  You can move the knot to the left or right, depending on where you want to put your embellishments.

Stick on the pumpkin embellishments and glue on pumpkins and there you have it!

Cute little Halloween favors.  These are going out to some of my favorite girls this week.

Now I am in the crafting mood and may see what else I can whip up for Halloween.  I love the Fall holidays!

Such a thoughtful gift, Michelle! You are so crafty - if you want, I'll email some photos of memory boxes I make for special people - weddings, special birthdays ( Ro and Ree??), baby showers, etc.
