I found a present that my husband made me for our anniversary one year under our bed when I was looking for my Bible( I know. But at least it's not under there anymore)
He made me a notebook with stories and poems he had written for me over the years, along with 101 reasons why he loved me. It had been a long time since I read it.
I was stunned with the beauty of his writing. I was stunned as well with his outpouring of love for me.
I asked him if I could share some of his writings. He begrudgingly agreed.
Here is one of the poems that was in the notebook:
You are my winter sunrise, my April shower, my slow lazy summer evening,
You are my gusty autumn red mapleleaf pinwheeling down the street
You are my frigid January beach, my laughter in the canyons,
You are my icicle at midday--the momentary diamond
You are my grey garden stone--ten thousand years and patient yet
You are my old iron oak tree, swaying in the rain,
You are my young brook skipping over round river stones,
You are my winter sunrise, my falling star, my blue moonlight on an empty sea
You are my high forest meadow, loud with butterfly wings,
You are my muddy jungle track, dripping with fresh rain,
You are my everything.
How did I get so lucky? What did I do to deserve this?
I think it goes without saying what I am thankful for today.

Fifteen Years
Fifteen years ago today I married my best friend. The one I laugh with, live for, Love.
That's what was written on our wedding announcements. We were married in a small church in the middle of a snow covered field with just our immediate family. We had a big party later, but I'll never forget how special our wedding day was.

When I woke up this morning and was getting ready to leave for work, I found this on the coffee table:

There was a hand written note that said "I will always love you. Forever and ever. We can always begin again."
Inside was this:

The very first piece of jewelery he purchased for me when we were dating nineteen years ago was an Opal ring.
We've had a rough time of it lately.
Today I want to focus on the love we have for each other and the feelings we had on that special day.
Fifteen years. I think that's pretty impressive in this day and age. And I think my husband is right. It's never too late to begin again.
Happy Valentine's Day.

I was gonna do a post about my New Year's resolutions for this year, but then I got bored so I'll just leave you with this little tidbit.
We got in from San Francisco around five-thirty. After such a long time in the car we were tired so we picked up dinner and came home to relax. Joe was channel surfing and the movie "Music and Lyrics" with Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant was on, so we watched it. It wasn't that great. Anyway, at the end of the movie Hugh Grant's character and Drew Barrymore's characters start kissing and she jumps up and wraps her legs around his waist.
I turned to my husband and said "Remember when we could do that? There's now way we could do that now. Your knees are bad and I'm too heavy. Gosh I feel old."
Do you know what my husband did then?
He got up off of the couch and went to stand in the dining room.
I said "What are you doing?".
He asked me to come over to where he was.
I was like "Why?"
He said "We could totally still do that. You are not too heavy and we are not too old. Come over here."
I said "No Way. I'm too heavy. You'll hurt yourself."
He said "Get over here!"
After much persuading on his part, I finally got up and joined him in the dining room.
And you know what? We totally did it! And nobody got hurt! I'm sure it wasn't pretty, but we did it :)
Now that's romance!

Date Night
My husband has a rare Friday night off. We're going to the movies. And maybe dinner. We'll see how it goes. I don't want to put myself into shock by doing too many things on the same night! We very rarely go out. And never at night. We're like two senior citizens. The other day, after all of those doctor's appointments, we found ourselves picking up dinner at four thirty. Four. Thirty. I'm pretty sure no one ordered the senior special though. Or maybe Joe did. I don't know. Sometimes I don't pay attention. But I digress. So we're going to the movies. We're going to see Dan in Real Life. I'm not usually a movie kind of girl. I have a short attention span. Usually about halfway through a movie I find my mind wandering and I start thinking about the hundreds of things I could be doing instead of sitting in a dark room. I also hate crowds. And sitting that close to a stranger. In a chair that is never cleaned. But I'm not an anti-social freak. I swear. My husband, on the other hand, loves the movies. He loves nothing better than to spend all day sitting in a dark room, losing himself in the story taking place on screen. So we compromise. We go to the movies a couple of times a month. Always after the movie has been out for a few weeks, and always during the day when it is cheaper. Once in a blue moon a movie preview will strike my fancy and I'll feel the urge to go see it right away, because I am sure I will love it. I don't listen to movie critics. I decide purely from the trailer. It's like judging a book by its cover, I know. But it works for me for the most part. Dan in Real Life was one such movie that appealed to me the moment I saw the preview. So we're headed out right now to see it. I hope it's not too crowded. I'll let you know what I think(without spoiling any major plot points). TGIF!

Happy Anniversary
Today is my wedding anniversary. Fourteen years ago today I married my best friend.
I think E.E. Cummings said it best
i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)
I made this slideshow as a surprise for my husband. It chronicles the last eighteen years we have spent together.
Joe, I love you with all of my heart.
You are my "One Safe Place"
