Three Word Sunday

I have 2 pictures for this week. Here's my first one. I am so enamored with this beach. We already have plans to go back and have a picnic dinner at sunset. Maybe sometime next week. I can't wait.

The next picture is for my husband. The stress of not being able to find a job is getting to him. He has been feeling down and his spirit is weakening. I hate seeing him like this. I pray for him every single day that he will find a job. Any job.

An Adventure

When we were at the Sawdust Festival a few weeks ago we stumbled upon a local photographer that we(well, I) was enamored with. His photos had a romantic, gauzy feel to them and I was instantly smitten with them. Many of his pictures featured what looked to be the turret of an old castle right on the beach.

The caption said simply “Laguna Beach”. I asked the photographer where in Laguna that was and he simply said “It’s a secret”. Then he gave me a wry smile. I asked him again “No, really, where was that taken? I would love to go there.” His answer? “I’d tell you, but then I’d have to kill you.”

Clearly the man was a comedian in his spare time. We wandered on to the next booth, never knowing what the location of those pictures was.

Well if you know me, you know that I am not easily dissuaded. As soon as I got home I G**gled “Castle Turret in Laguna Beach” and found it was on a beach called Victoria Beach. I told Joe that we HAD to go there.

Then I broke my toe. Not exactly conducive to walking on the beach.

Wednesday rolled around and Joe and I spent the entire day doing nothing. I had been feeling sick and hadn’t slept the night before and thought I might be coming down with something so I just laid around all day. I was bored and ansty and we had been getting on each others nerves all day(You know the other part of your spouse being unemployed is that they are home all day and night? All. The. Time. In our tiny little apartment. Sometimes you just need some space, you know?)

So at about 5:30 in the evening I was like "We need to get out of here. We have to go SOMEWHERE." And it needed to be free. The beach quickly came to mind, since it is one of our go-to places when we want to get away. And it was like 100 degrees at our house at the time.

So off we went in search of this elusive "Victoria Beach". The directions I had off of the internet said it was a little tricky to find. I didn't have an exact address so I knew better than to try our navigation system. It always leads me astray if I don't know the exact address. It also said that it was down a very private street and that the residents aren't too keen on people visiting.

After a few missed turns we finally found the street. We parked the car and started out towards the sound of the ocean. We did actually get a couple of dirty looks from residents out in their front yards watering their plants.

Too bad people. It's a public beach.

After walking a couple of blocks there was the entrance to a staircase, tucked into the side of a hill. They weren't kidding about it being hidden. We would have walked right by it if there hadn't been someone coming up the stairs on their way out.

There was only about 30 minutes left until sunset so we quickly got down to taking some pictures.

We had my sister's nice camera with us, since she left it behind last weekend(don't worry Lisa. The camera is fine. I told you I was gonna take some pictures with it! :)

The lighting was beautiful and Joe got some very good shots.

Is this not beautiful? Wouldn't it be cool to take some wedding pictures here?

We stayed until it was almost dark. I hated to come home. We will be going back to this beach again for sure.

I love a good adventure.

Thankful Thursday

I know it's time for me to start doing these again when I find myself feeling negative all the time and not having anything nice to say.

No matter how crappy my week is going or the stress I am feeling over Joe's job situation, there are always things to be thankful for.

Always.

Here are a few I managed to think of for this week.

I am thankful for blogger friends. Especially those who hold give-aways! :) Last week Ashley had a give away to win one of these very cool wristlets from Vera Bradley and I won! It came this weekend and it is so cute. I love it. Thanks Ashley!

I am thankful that there are only 7 days left until the next season of So You Think You Can Dance! AND Only 26 more days until the new Season of Dancing With the Stars. Both shows at the same time!! I am so excited! Some of their results shows are going to overlap and I don't know how I will choose which one to watch. Thank goodness for the DVR!

And yes. I am a huge dork.

I am thankful for Brownies. Enough said.
(Thanks Dad)

I am thankful my toe has started feeling better. I'm still limping but not nearly as badly as I was.

I am thankful for my husband.

That last one was not easy to write, given the week that we have been having. The stress of him not having a job is getting to us. There has been fighting. It is tiring.

But ever since we moved into the new apartment he has taken over all of the housework. The dishes. The laundry. The vacuuming. Even the dinner making. Since I broke my toe almost 2 weeks ago I haven't had to lift even so much as a finger.

I am very lucky to have him. And I am thankful for that.

I'm cracking up over this. Heh.

What are you thankful for?

The song that's playing right now is called "I'm Alive" and it's sung by Kenny Chesney(oh how I heart Kenny Chesney) and Dave Matthews. This song has gotten me through some very hard moments this week. Here are the lyrics:

So damn easy to say that life’s so hard
Everybody’s got their share of battle scars
As for me I’d like to thank my lucky stars that
I’m alive, and well

It’d be easy to add up all the pain
And all the dreams you sat and watched go up in flames
Dwell on the wreckage as it smolders in the rain
But not me, I’m alive

And today you know that’s good enough for me
Breathin' in and out's a blessin' can’t you see
Today's the first day of the rest of my life
And I’m alive, and well
I’m alive, and well

Stars are dancin’ on the water here tonight
It’s good for the soul, when there’s not a soul in sight
But this boat has caught its wind and brought me back to life
Now I’m alive, and well

And today you know that’s good enough for me
Breathin' in and out's a blessing can’t you see
Today is the first day of the rest of my life
Now I’m alive, and well
Yeah I’m alive, and well

Blah

That's how I have been feeling. Blah.

Has it really been almost a week since I last posted?

I'm not feeling the blog lately. You probably noticed that.

I broke my little toe last Saturday and it does not seem to be healing. I thought it was getting better but now it appears to have taken a turn for the worse.

I think part of the problem is that I won't stay off of it. I have been hobbling around for almost a week on it and now I can hardly but any weight on my foot at all.

I'm trying to avoid going to the urgent care by icing it and taking some left over pain killers. Although I do have insurance my co-pay is quite high and we are quite short on money right now. We are still having problems getting the unemployment department to pay us in a regular and consistent manner. It is a source of constant stress between Joe and myself, especially since he is not working at all now. Not even at the part time job that he had. Note the past tense of that word. "Had".

Joe and I both agree if it doesn't feel much better by tomorrow a trip to the urgent care will be in order. He is off to the pharmacy in a few minutes to see if he can find me some kind of splint for it and I borrowed some crutches from my Dad to make me stay off of it.

Having a bum foot has cut drastically into my exercise routine and that in itself makes me grumpy. It has been quite unseasonably cool here and as I sit here on the couch with my foot elevated I find that I am quite annoyed that I can't even get out and go for a walk.

I did somehow manage to lose another 2 pounds though, despite all of the eating I did when my kitchen was packed up and all the eating out we did while my sister was visiting.

Perhaps the new thyroid meds are finally taking effect, although I can't tell at all from my energy level. I am still bone tired much of the time.

It was not my intent for this post to turn into one long complaint.

Sorry.

Today I had lunch with my Dad and then Joe and I spent a lazy afternoon watching old movies on t.v.

I chose "Dirty Dancing" and now we(Joe) are watching "Arachnophobia". (Ewwwww.........!)

I love days like this and I'm glad to have them because tomorrow I will be gone all day at a baby shower and then dinner with my mother in law.

Send good thoughts :)

Be back tomorrow with my three words for the week.

What are you all up to this weekend?

Pics from the weekend

My sister left her nice camera at my house. I'm going to have to send it back to her.

But not until after I take a couple of pictures with it. Heh.

I really didn't take too many pics this weekend. I couldn't find my camera(it's in a box somewhere. I just don't know which box).

We took a few pics with Lisa's camera from our day at Boomer's on Friday afternoon but that's it.

I think Lisa has a few from my friend's party that we went to on Saturday night. I'll have to nag her to upload them and give them to me.

All in all we were too busy and having too much fun to take pictures. That's always a good thing.

Here are a few:

Uncle Joe took Gracie on the Go-Carts
IMG_0297

Then Lisa and Cameron went for a ride
IMG_0265

Grace and I went around too. These are seriously fun! Joe and I are going to go back and race against each other.

IMG_0321

They had some little cars that the kids could drive. Grace loved these

This picture cracks me up

She’s very serious about her Go-Cart driving!

Cameron tried the wall climbing
IMG_0250

Then Uncle Joe went on this ride with him that they could make go upside down. Just watching it made me feel a little sick

This picture was on Lisa’s camera so I included it too.

He’s such a handsome boy.

What a fun weekend! Now I must get back to the unpacking. Ugh.

Three Word Sunday

Since my sister's puppy Finn is visiting again I thought this picture was appropriate. He's such a character. And much better behaved now that his biting problem is solved and he knows the command "Drop".

Busy

Been too busy to blog.

We survived the move. Last week after my (almost) total meltdown, Joe got a storage unit and took most of the boxes over to it one day while I was at work.

Bless him.

As soon as I could move a little bit some of the panic dissipated.

Now I just need to find the time to get over there to go through the boxes because there are so many things that I still cannot find.

But not this weekend. Because Lisa and the kids(andpuppy!) are visiting.

It is quite cozy in our little tiny apartment right now.

Luckily we haven't been home much. We've been swimming, and eating and riding Go-Carts and playing miniature golf.

Now I am exhausted and going to bed.

Be back sometime next week.

Three Words

I know it's not Sunday yet, but here are my three words for the week.

This move has been hard.

We got rid of a TON of stuff.

We did not get rid of enough.

When we got into the new apartment I started to see just how much smaller the new place is than the old one.

The living room is smaller.

The (one) bedroom is smaller.

Even the bathroom and kitchens are slightly smaller. If you saw my kitchen before, you would wonder how this could even be possible.

Yet it is.

We still have far too much stuff to fit into 650 square feet of space.

Will probably end up having to get a storage unit. Which we really can't afford.

We may have to end up selling some of the baby stuff. We don't need a crib right now. Or a stroller. Or a pack-n-play crib.

We don't need them, and we certainly don't have the room for them.

Today as Joe and the guys we hired to help us move loaded the moving truck I sat on the floor of the empty baby's room and cried.

Then Joe and I got into a huge fight on the front lawn in front of our hired help and some of the neighbors too.

Nice.

Overall this has not been a great day. But at least the hard part is over. The actual moving is done.

Maybe tomorrow will be a better day.

***To top it all off, our cat of 15 years got totally freaked out by the moving truck and ran across the street(which she has NEVER done before) and now we can't find her. I am so worried. I will not sleep until we find her. I am so sad.*************

Update: Our cat came back. I am so relieved. Joe brought her in a few minutes ago. Now she is hiding under the bed. But we found her. Whew!

A Little Break

Huge piles of cardboard boxes

This is my life right now. My house is a mess. I cannot find anything. There are clothes and boxes and just stuff everywhere. Every room I look in I see chaos. I do not do well with chaos. We are moving in 3 days and we Are. Not. Ready. It is freaking me out.

I'm going to step away from the computer for a few days until after we get ourselves moved. I'm not even going to open up my laptop when I'm at home for the next few days. I must focus on getting more organized. I hate, hate, hate moving. I feel anxious, uptight and stressed.

I'll be back when it's over.

*****Thank you so much for the kind words on my post from a few days ago. I was worried about putting some of that stuff out there and once again you guys made me feel like you understand and that I am not alone. I appreciate that more than you know******

Dragon Boat Festival

I had a blast at this year's Dragon Boat races, just like last year.

Since I was considered a veteran this year(and I have no kids to look after at the races), I was signed up to race in every single race.

How many races is that you might ask?

Seven. Races.

Four of those races were scheduled back to back, which meant I had to get out of one boat at the finish of one race and get right back into the boat for the next one.

I raced in four races on Saturday and three on Sunday.

To say I am tired would be a huge understatement.

Tired and sore.

But yesterday as I got off the boat of my seventh race, soaking wet from both sweat and salt water, I turned to my husband and said "I can't wait to do that again".

I have a hard time putting into words how I feel about participating in this. I had to go to a thesaurus to find the right adjectives to explain it.

Exhilarating. Breathtaking. Electric. Inspiring. Invigorating. Intoxicating. Uplifting. Vitalizing.

You get the idea. I truly, truly love it.

I am sad that it is over and am counting down the days until next year.

I was trying to explain to Joe what it felt like to be in the race. Each race is 500 meters(that's a little over the length of 5 football fields!). The race lasts between 2 minutes and 30 seconds and 3 minutes long(ours are almost always three minutes). It feels like the longest 3 minutes of your life. Imagine doing some kind of physical activity. Running. Or sit ups. Or jumping jacks. Or a combination of the three. Now do that activity as hard and as fast as you can, and DO NOT STOP. For three minutes. It isn't easy. I can tell I am in much better physical shape this year than last because I was able to participate in 7 races and although I am sore, I am much less so than last year, when I only participated in three. I can thank my Wii Active program for that.

Here are some pictures. I didn't take a whole lot because I spent a lot of time in the tent this year, trying to recuperate for my next race. A few of these of the boats are ones that I snapped last year.

They are in no particular order because I am tired and I'm going to bed early.

None of the boats you see in the races are my team. Joe was supposed to come and take pictures of my races on Sunday but he didn't make it in time so I took some of the other teams.

Warming up while they wait for their race

3 Word Sunday

This is a day late but literally the only time I was home this weekend I was asleep!

I am so glad that she decided to start this up again. I loved participating in it last year. You can participate too, if you like. Just visit her site to get all of the details. Hope to see your picture in there next week!

Here' s mine for this week. These pictures were taken last year. I'll post pics from this year's races tonight. I don't have any pictures of us actually racing this year, since Joe missed my last race by 10 minutes. But I did take some pictures. I had hope to take more but I raced in seven races this year and honestly between races all I wanted to do is rest.
