It was awesome. Simply awesome.
It has been such a long time since we saw anything on the stage. I have missed it so!
You just can't beat a live performance.
Everything about it was wonderful. The sets, the casts, the musical numbers, everything.
I sat forward in my seat mesmerized the whole time. I was so mesmerized, in fact that I didn't even notice Joe nodding off a bit. Apparently he was a tad bored.
It wasn't until intermission when I turned to him and saw that glassy look in his eyes that I realized he wasn't enjoying the performance as much as I was.
I suppose I get it. Mary Poppins isn't exactly a movie made for dudes, plus it doesn't have the same nostalgia for him that it does for me. It was one of my very favorite movies as a kid. I remember watching it, then when it was over immediately re-winding it and watching it again. I knew every single song. I could recite every word.
The play was slightly different from the movie (some scenes were taken from the series of books that the movie was based on. I had no idea there was a series of books! Now I must check them out!)
Anyway, it was slightly different from the movie but all of the characters and songs from the movie were in the play so it didn't bother me that it was different.
Our seats were kind of high up (thus the low $14 price tickets). I wish I had brought my glasses. Next time we will bring a small pair of binoculars to look through. We couldn't see the actors faces very well at all, and it would have been nice to have seen their expressions.
They didn't allow any pictures but here are a few I stole off the internet:
From my favorite scene "Step in Time"
The sets were magical
It was fabulous. If you get the chance to go see it, you should.
Even Joe gave it a thumbs up at the end (although he thought it was a little long.)
I want to go see something else on the stage now. I got an e-mail from the Performing Arts Center we saw it at outlining the rest of their shows for the year and I have serious envy now. They had a special where you could see three plays during the week for $50 (for all three!) and I was totally tempted.
Maybe if I get a full time job.
Loved every minute of it!

Tess and I saw this here two years ago and thought it was amazing. The choreography for Steppin Time was AWESOME!
My ex-boss took me to see this 4.5 years ago and I loved it. She splurged my 'front section' seats and it was absolutely amazing.
I love musicals and try and see at least a couple a year, living in London means I have quite a few to chose from ;-)
