Girl's Weekend

I had the best weekend.  The.  Best.  Weekend.  It was pure fun from beginning to end.

I flew up Friday morning and Lisa picked me up at the airport.  We picked up lunch and headed to her new house.  It is sooooo pretty.  I can't wait to spend Thanksgiving there in a  couple of weeks.  Lisa had a hair appointment so I went to the kid's school to pick up Grace.  Lisa lives in kind of a small town and I can't tell you how many people said "Hi Lisa" to me while I stood in front of the school waiting for Grace. It's so weird to me.  I know we look alike but sometimes I forget we are twins.  I haven't been confused with her since I was a kid.  (Although I learned at a young age to answer to either Lisa or Michelle.  To this day if someone calls out "Lisa" I will turn my head).

After bringing the kids home from school Lisa and I were on our way to dinner with Kayce, Stacey, and M3.  Everything about that night was perfect.  Delicious food, good conversation, great friends.  We sat there for hours talking.  I thought they were going to kick us out.  :)  I just have so much fun when I am with these girls.  And special thanks to Kayce for making the trip over the mountain in the dark.  You rock Kayce!

MMMMMMMM................Dessert.

After dinner Stacey followed us back to Lisa's house to start our weekend adventure.  We were up bright and early and on our way to Sacramento for the Scrapbook Expo.

First stop:  Starbuck's.  The nice man taking the picture was supposed to get the Starbuck's sign that was directly above us but he didn't so you'll just have to imagine it there.

Here's one I got off the internet in case you aren't good at imagining things.

We drove right by the Capitol on our way to the convention center.
We stopped  to see if Arnold was moving his stuff out but he wasn't.  At least not while we were there.

I won this!  I'm pretty lucky that way

Yeah, you knew I was going in here.

Sour candy!

My stash.  What was I thinking?? I only just ate all of the Halloween candy!
If we are what we eat, then I'm easy, fast and cheap.  Haha
We should have asked him a question.  But we didn't.
Cheers!

Stacey made me get on this buffalo.  No really.  I said I was content to just pose next to it and she said "NO.  Get ON it."  So I did.  I'm pretty sure people walking by thought we were crazy.
Old Town Sacramento
I bought this outfit to wear for Joe on Christmas Eve.  Shhhhhh..........don't tell him.  It's a surprise.
It is also a surprise for my sister and family, as that's where we will be spending Christmas eve.
I didn't buy this hat.  I kind of wish I had.  But not to wear with the outfit I bought because that would be over the top.
Signs of Fall
Headed back to Lisa's house.  Sadness.
I had the best time.  What a perfect weekend.  Thank you Lisa for flying me up. Thank you Kayce and M3 for coming out with us. Thank you Stacey for doing the driving into Sacramento.

I am still basking in the fun we had.  It was a really great weekend.

Thankful Thursday

There are some Thursdays I come here and I don't really feel that thankful.  Some weeks it's hard for me to come up with something to post.

Well not this week!  I have a ton of stuff to be thankful for, and be excited about this week.  Yay me!

I am thankful Halloween is over.  No more candy.  All of the candy has left our house(via my stomach). I actually had to turn away two groups of trick or treaters because I ate all the candy(hangs head in shame).  But we live all the way in the back of our apartment complex now and I truly wasn't expecting anyone!  I still felt bad though.

I am thankful that I live in a country where I get to vote.  I won't get up on a soapbox about it but I am shocked by the amount of people who don't vote.  I just don't get it.  Enough said.

I am thankful that tonight I get to have dinner with one of my favorite bloggers.  She is coming to town and this time we get to meet her husband too.  I can't tell you where they are coming from, because she keeps her blog anonymous but it's a long way away and it isn't often that they make it all the way to our state.  One day we are going to make it to their state to visit.  One day.  Plus, we get to go to a restaurant.  Where you sit down.  It has been a long time since Joe and I were able to go out.  I am so looking forward to it!

I am thankful that Joe finally got his bike fixed so we can go on bike rides together.  I don't like to ride alone and my new(used) bike that I got in the summer hasn't been getting a lot of use.  We are eating healthier and made a pact to get more exercise and this will really help.  Here  I am with my bike.

And here I am in my helmet.  I have to admit I feel like a huge dork in it. But I am highly injury prone so this isn't even a choice for me.  I actually could use a helmet in my every day life.  LOL.  Now if only I could get Joe to wear one too.

Then the best part of the week?  Tomorrow I am getting on an airplane to go up North and visit my sees-ter.  She is flying me up there to go to the Scrapbook Expo.  And  she is coming with us too and we are spending the night and we are going to have the.  best.  time.

And tomorrow night we are having dinner with her and her. I saw Kayce this summer when she made her way down here but  I haven't seen M3 in a long time.  So excited!

It's been a while since I had anything to be excited about.  It feels good.

I am so thankful.

Happy Halloween

I hope everyone has a happy halloween.  Joe and I babysat last night and today we don't have any plans other than stay in and watch a movie and eat candy.  Since we moved to the back of our apartment builiding, upstairs, we don't have any trick or treaters come by so I guess I'll have to finish off the last of the candy myself.  Sacrifices.
Happy Halloween!

Thankful Thursday

Some days I really don't want to do these.  I don't feel thankful.  I feel sad.  I feel angry.  I feel like going into my bedroom and pulling the covers over my head and not coming out.

But then I  force myself to think of something, any thing, just one thing that I could be thankful for and I end up thinking of a few things.  So I guess that's good.

A few weeks ago I signed up for a blog swap, and the theme was "spooky".  I sent my package off to my swap partner  last week and then totally forgot about it until my package arrived yesterday.  My swap partner really hooked me up and it was such a nice surprise to come home to yesterday.  It really brightened my day.

Thanks blog swap partner!  You rock!

I am thankful that people are still ordering banners from me.  I have had three more custom orders in the last week and I have been working on those in the evenings and on my day off.  It  takes my mind of of things. Plus, I really love making things  that other people will enjoy.

I am thankful for Halloween candy.  I went and bought a big bag(even though we don't get any trick or treaters at our apartment) and I have been eating it all myself.  It's one of the only things bringing me happiness right now.  I'm not saying it's a healthy way to deal with my feelings, but it's working for me for now.

I'm thankful for all of the kind words that were left on my post from Monday.  I cried for three days after writing that post(which I wrote last week).  It seemed so final after I put it out there for everyone to read.  It has been a long time coming and Joe and I have spent countless hours talking about it, both with each other and in counseling but to put it in writing made it very real to me.  I have only just begun the grieving process.

I wanted to clarify that the reason we are pulling out of China has nothing to do with the wait.  We would wait 3 more years if we had to.  It is purely financial.  We simply don't have the money required to follow through with an adoption. From China, or otherwise. I know that we could fund raise but I don't have a popular enough blog or the kind of following that kind of fundraising would require .  Plus, it feels strange(to me) asking for (and taking money) from strangers.

48 months

48 months.  Four Years.  That's how long we have waited for this adoption to go through.  When you add in the year it took us to prepare our paperwork, that puts us at 5 years total.  Just for the adoption alone. We tried to get pregnant for 5 years before that.

I always told myself that if it was in God's plan for us to have children, then we would have them.  I'm not sure how many signs we have to get before I will see that maybe it's just not meant to be.

It looks as though we aren't going to make it to the end of this adoption.

22 months of unemployment have put us in a position where we cannot financially continue on.  Unless a miracle happens in the next 6 months, we will have come to the end of this road. All signs pointing to us living child free.  I know there are other options, other avenues that can be pursued, down the road.

I can't think about them right now.

All I can do is grieve for this.

This one hope that we have had for the last 5 years, come to an end.

Today, on the four year anniversary of being logged in with China all I have are tears for all that we have lost and for what will never be.

I had Joe turn off her light a few months ago.  I just couldn't bear to look at it.

To our Sophie:  We are so very sorry.  We fought the good fight. You will always have a place in our hearts.  We loved you so, even though we never saw your face.

The only thing we have left to do is call our adoption agency and have them pull our paperwork.
Joe wants to wait 6 more months.  I want to do it now, get it over with.  For now I am letting him have his way.  Mostly because I don't want to fight over something that is already causing us so much pain.

I don't know what we will do with the crib. Or the baby clothes. Or the toys.  For now they are in storage, where they will probably sit until I can muster up the strength to sort through them and give them away.  For anyone that gave me a gift during the course of this adoption, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.  I treasured each one. If you have your child at home now and you would like your gift back, I will gladly send it to you.  I would feel so much better knowing that it was being put to use and bringing a child joy than sitting in a box.

Thankful Thursday

I have just one thanks for this week, because it is a big one.

I am thankful to be alive.

Joe and I were on our way home from work on Tuesday. There was a bad storm that had been brewing all day. Thunder, lightning, and heavy rain.

He was late picking me up because of it. It was raining very heavily when he finally showed up at my work.

I gathered my things, got in the car and we were on our way.

As we got on the toll road that we take to get home, we were talking about the weather, how crazy people start driving when it rains and how we really needed to get new tires for our car.

Suddenly out of nowhere, Joe lost control of the car. We had hit a flooded area of the road. We swerved across three lanes of highway, fishtailing and zig zagging. The front of our car hit the cement center divider, hard. The car zig zagged back across the three lanes. I felt the car start to tip. It seemed we were going to roll over.

I thought we were going to die. I distinctly remember thinking that. This is how I die. The whole thing lasted probably only a couple of minutes or so, but it seemed like it lasted forever, like it was in slow motion.

The next thing I knew we were stopped on the shoulder of the road, safe.

Joe demonstrated some very defensive driving that day. He knew what to do if the car hydroplaned. He never touched the brakes. He simply steered the car, never letting it lose control completely. After we hit the divider and the flooded area was passed, he guided the car to the shoulder of the road.

We both flew out of the car on the side of the road, hugging and crying in the rain. There was not a scratch on either of us. The only damage to the car was a cracked rim on the left tire where it had hit the divider. He changed the tire on the side of the road in the pouring rain while I held an umbrella over him. We were both soaked and cold and shaken, but otherwise perfectly fine.

I am thankful God was watching over us that day, and for Joe's driving skills.

The outcome could have been so much worse.

I am grateful that it wasn't.

For Chloe

I finished my first custom banner a few days ago and I love how it turned out.

This one was seriously fun to make.  The colors were so bright and the Jungle theme was so whimsical.  I'm for sure going to be using these papers again.  Love them.

I really enjoyed making it. This one is going out in the mail to Cora today. Cora and her husband are adopting a beautiful little girl from China.

Thank you Cora, for the order.  I had so much fun making it

Thankful Thursday

I'm not going to lie, I'm not feeling it today. Yesterday was a hard day. A lot of tears were shed. It wasn't one particular thing that had me down, just a combination of a lot of things.

Today is a new day.

--I'm thankful to have a job. If you have a job, be thankful. I don't care how much it sucks. Be thankful.

--I am thankful that people like the things I create and actually want to buy them. I sold 6 banners over the last week. I am stoked!

--I am thankful for the support from my friends on the internet. I receive more love and support from people I have never even met than people in my life who I call "friends". Thank you for that. You don't know how much it means to me. Well I guess now you do. :)

I Wish

I wish.........

I knew how much longer Joe will be unemployed.

I lived closer to my sister.

I could pick up the phone and call my Mom.

I could  find the motivation to walk again.

My extraction site didn't still hurt.

We could afford to go out to dinner for Joe's birthday on Sunday(or that I could afford to get him a present).

I didn't have to spend the money I won on the radio on a new set of tires.

We could take the job Joe was offered  in another city and just pack up and move away.  They couldn't offer him enough hours per week to warrant us doing so.

The weather would cool down again.

I  could go to sleep right now.  Insomnia sucks.

What are you wishing for?

Pumpkin Patch

I love Pumpkin Patches.  I love everything about them.  We have our fair share of those pumpkin patches that you find on the corner of a shopping center parking lot.  We are also lucky to have a real working farm within 10 minutes of our house that has a wonderful, pick-from-the-vine pumpkin patch.  Tonight we headed over there in the evening, to take some pictures and wander around the pumpkins.

Inside the wheelbarrow is this sign, and we soon found out why.  Shortly after taking the above photo, I leaned too far back in the wheelbarrow(trying to get out) and it tipped over backward and I landed on my head. Joe, being the gentleman that he is, put the camera down and ran over to help me up instead of snapping a picture of it.  I kinda wish he had taken the picture.  :)

I love scarecrows

We got here too late to see them shoot off the pumpkin cannon.  Maybe next time.

Thankful Thursday

**********Got the test results back today.  It's NOT Cancer.  Hallelujah.   The only problem is, they don't know WHAT is causing it.  If the bleeding continues they will have to go in surgically and cauterize my cervix.  Ummmm.........Ouch.  Hopefully it won't come to that.  The important thing is that it isn't Cancer.  I can enjoy my weekend now.***************

What a week this has been and it's not even over yet!

Last week I had some troubling medical symptoms that had me frantically calling my doctor and  doing a lot of G**gling.  One of the main diagnoses for this type of symptom is both uterine and cervical cancer.  On Monday my doctor was able to squeeze me in for some(painful) tests.  He seemed concerned and said we can't rule anything out until we get the test results back.  I have been a huge ball of stress waiting on the results.  I was really hoping to hear something yesterday but didn't. Hopefully we will  get some news today.  I am trying not to spend too much time thinking about the what if's.  Whatever it is we will deal with it.

Then to add to the stress, one of my teeth fractured completely in half, which led to an emergency trip to the dentist.  Upon review of an x-ray it was determined that the tooth could not be saved and would have to be extracted. He gave me a referral to an Oral Surgeon and Joe and I went directly over to his office, where they extracted the tooth.  Thankfully it is a second molar, all the way in the back, so it won't be noticeable but I am still sad that it couldn't be saved.  I certainly can't afford an implant right now so I'll just have to acclimate to the tooth being gone.  The extraction itself was not too terrible.  I had them put me to sleep so I don't remember anything and I came home afterwards and slept for a long while.  The pain was pretty intense after the numbing wore off but Vicodin is helping a lot so it isn't unbearable.

I think I'm good for awhile as far as medical stuff goes.  Do you hear that universe?  I don't need anything else going wrong with my body, okay?  Thankyouverymuch.

Anyway, on to my thanks.

--I'm thankful that I have a wonderful doctor who was very proactive about my symptoms and got me in right away for the necessary tests.  No matter what the diagnosis is, I know I am in good hands.

--I am thankful the extraction went smoothly and without complication. I was very nervous about it.  I have had four surgeries and none of them gave me as much anxiety as this dental procedure.

--I am thankful for the cooler, rainy weather we have been having.  I  love the rain.  Plus, I have been spending a lot of time in bed this week and it is so cozy to be there when it is raining outside.  It's supposed to be in the high 80's again by the weekend, but I enjoyed it while it lasted.

--I am so thankful for Joe.  He takes the best care of me.  Whether it be heating up my rice pack so I could put it on my abdomen after the tests on Monday, or bringing me smoothies and pudding in bed yesterday after my extraction, he does it all willingly and without complaint and I am so lucky to have him.

Keeping it Real

A few days ago I read this post:

You should read it.  It's a little long, but worth it. (Click on the picture)

I read it again.  It rolled around in my head a little bit and then I read it one more time.
 It really stuck with me.

I see a lot of this disease he is referring to, this disease called  Perfection.  I see it every day, in the wealthy area that I work.  I see it on other people’s blogs.  I see it especially on Facebook where people update their status twelve times a day with snippets from their “perfect” lives.

I’m not one of those people who goes around spewing rainbows and sunshine.  It’s just not my nature.  If you read this blog then you already know that.  I have had people tell me I am too negative.  They are probably right.  I’m actually not as negative “in real life” as I come across on this blog.  This is where I tend to dump all of my fear and worry.  There have been some stressful situations in my life over the last few years(just as anyone has) and this is where I choose to share them. Maybe that’s wrong.  Maybe it’s not what you would choose.  But it’s what I choose. And it helps me.

Although I tend to "keep it real" in most aspects of my life, there is one area where I tend to  spew perfection, and that's where my marriage is concerned.

Over the last few months I have had a few people tell me that they are envious of my marriage.
Each  time I was like “Huh??  Envious?  Whatever for?”

And then I realized it is because when it comes to our marriage I only put the good stuff out there.

I write how Joe is so good to me.  How lucky I am to have him. How he tells me every day that I am beautiful.  How we have been married for 18 blissful years.  How we are best friends and we love spending so much time together.

All of the above  things are true.

But just as there are good things in our marriage, there are bad too.  I just choose not to put them out there. I choose not to be real because I want people to think we have the perfect marriage.  There are so many other things going wrong in our lives that I want this one thing to come across as perfect.

But our marriage is far from perfect.

Joe and I fight. We yell at each other.  I slam doors.

There are days when I wake up pissed off because I have to get up and go to work and he gets to stay home.  (Many days).

Sometimes after a fight we don’t “kiss and make up” before bed time and we both sleep in different rooms.

I say unkind things to him.  I say things to him that I would never say to a friend, and yet I call him my best friend. But sometimes I don’t treat him as one.

Sometimes I wish he would go somewhere, anywhere, just so I can have an hour alone in our apartment.

He leaves all the kitchen cupboard doors open and it drives me crazy.

I leave my wet towel on the couch every night after my shower and it drives him crazy.

We have had to seek the help of professionals to deal with some of the stress on our marriage over the last two years.

I have had people say mean things to me about him and I didn’t stand up for him.

I could go on and on, but you get the picture.  It isn't all good. There is bad too.  I just choose not to be real about it, due to this disease called perfection.

After all is said and done you take the good with the bad and I wake up each day and try to be a better wife. We love each other.  And we are so very lucky to have one another.

But it certainly isn’t perfect, the way I make it out to be, and how I want others to perceive it.

I wonder how different the world would be if sometimes people tried to be a little more real instead of hiding their fears, or worries or problems behind perfection?  How many conversations would start if someone let on that they were sad, or scared, or angry, or hurt sometimes?  How many people would feel less alone?

I know I would.  So I'm going to try and be real more and not fall prey to perfection.

*****Being real doesn't mean that you spew negativity all the time.  It simply means that you be honest about your faults and don't be afraid to let them show once in awhile. You might be surprised to learn how many people are going through the same trials that you are if you only open yourself up and share with them. *************

Be Real.

Wednesday, September 22, 2010

Maybe I should just resign myself to the reality that I will only be posting once a week or so.  I just don't have a lot to say, and honestly there isn't a lot going on(that I'm willing to share here).  I'm worried and stressed every day about Joe's job situation.  His unemployment is going to run out at some point(not right this second, but soon enough to have me worried).  It's getting harder and harder to explain to people that he can't get a job.  People are so judgmental. I usually just let them have their say and I keep quiet.  You know how they say you don't know someone's story unless you have walked in their shoes?  I have learned that to be so true.  So true.  I am going to try very hard not to assume things about people any more.  You have no idea what their story is.  I am learning a lot of life lessons out of this whole thing and as difficult as it is to go through it right now I think I will come out of it a better person.  It doesn't keep me from crying myself to sleep over it many nights though.

Moving on.

World of Color was amazing.  So.  Good.  I can't wait to see it again, but I'll wait until the hype dies down before we do.  What a process it was just to see it.  We had to be at CA Adventure at 5:00 to get our fastpasses for it.  We were told you couldn't line up until 5:00.  Well they lied because there were a whole lotta people in line before us and we got there at 4:30.  My back had been hurting a lot(I'm so over my back hurting), so I was worried about how long we were going to have to stand in line.  We thought maybe I would find a bench to sit on while Joe waited.  So I got in line and Joe went to the front to see how long the line was.  Next thing I know he's coming back with 2 fastpasses. I was like "How'd you do that?"  He said he told some lady at the very front of the line that his wife had a bad back and she was standing at the back of the line and would she mind getting us a couple of fast passes?  Well she said "Sure, no problem" and he handed her our annual passes and within 5 minutes we had our fast passes.  And they were for the best viewing area.  Maybe it wasn't fair to the rest of the people in line but I was so grateful.  If there is one thing I have to say about Joe, it's that he is resourceful.

That gave us about 4 hours to fill until the showing so we went over to Disneyland to hang out.  We ended up sitting on a bench and people watching for a while because my back was hurting(did I mention I'm over my back hurting?  Because I am).  A lot of stuff was closed because they weren't launching their "Halloween Time" events until two days later.  After that we had to go move our car because we parked in the Downtown Disney parking lot and you only get 3 hours free and Joe didn't want to pay for parking.  We took the monorail out to Downtown disney, which is so convenient.

After moving the car we headed back into CA Adventure.  The cool thing was, the park was closed to regular visitors at this point and only open for annual passholders, so it was empty.  We walked right on Tower of Terror, 3 times in a row.  We love that ride. Finally at 8:00 it was time to head over to the "holding area" for World of Color.  We had to stay in the holding area for an hour, until it was time for them to herd us into the viewing area for the show.  We had the best location, front and center.  If there is one thing I would change about it, it would be that they make it so you can sit down and watch the show, like they do for Fantasmic.  The way they had it set up you had to stand the whole time and the show is about 35 minutes long.  That's a long time to stand, especially if you are in pain. This is where Joe comes through again.  He went and told a cast member that his wife had a bad back and was there somewhere she could sit down to view the show.  Well next thing I know, a cast member is escorting us to a roped off area with benches with a perfect view of the show.  One of the things I love about Disney.  They are so accommodating.  Joe stood up in the back of the area to give other people who needed to  sit  a spot.

But the show was amazing and totally worth the wait and we are so lucky to have gotten to see it.  I love having Wednesdays off.

Today we have been doing a lot of cleaning and purging and then we are headed out for a walk later. The weather is beautiful today.  Cloudy and breezy with a high of 70.  Unfortunately it's going to go up to  97 degrees on Sunday.  Blech.  That's not very Fall like at all.

I'm sorry if this is  getting old but I  miss my cat  so much.  I've been feeling very sad about it.  I just can't believe she's gone and she's never coming back.  I know this sounds stupid but I feel like somebody in my family died. She was our baby for 18 years and now she's gone.  There have been a lot of tearful nights around here in the last week and a half.  Between my uncle and my cat I have been feeling very melancholy.  I know it will get better as time goes on. It's just so hard right now. Grief is so exhausting.

On a happier note, summer is over and the kids have gone back to school, which means we can finally start using our Disney passes again.  Tonight we are headed to a special showing(for annual passholders only) of The World of Color at the CA Adventure park. I can't wait.  From what I have seen, it's spectacular.

I don't think I'm going to bring my camera so here are some pictures I found on the internet:

It looks so cool.  I'll let you know how it was.

Goodbye Kitty

She didn't come back and I am heartbroken.  I know we were lucky to have her for 18 years.  I know she lived a long, good life.  But I miss her and I wish I could have her back.  She is a part of our family and now our family is incomplete.

Goodbye Kitty.  We love you and miss you.

**she started with a name but over the years we had taken to calling her just "kitty".

Here is something that we do on another board I belong to and since I keep coming here and don't know what to write I think I'll try it here.

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly

The Good:
-- I went to Vegas for Labor Day weekend.  We housesat at an amazing house in Henderson and laid by the pool all day.  It was good to get away.

--I applied for several jobs in another city and I got job interviews for all of them. I couldn't go on any of them at this time, but at least I know that I am hirable.  Now if only we had the money to move.  I don't think Joe is going to find a job if we stay here. Our county has one of the highest unemployment rates in the state.  Something has to change and I think it might have to be our location.

The Bad:
--My uncle died. My prayers are with my Aunt and my cousins. He will be greatly missed.

--My car got broken into and about $350 worth of stuff was stolen.  It sucks.

--Our cat is missing.  I am trying not to panic about it.  She has disappeared for a couple of days before and she always came back but that was when she was younger and got around better. She is 18 years old.  Her back legs often go out on her.  I have been trying to keep her in the house but she has been an outdoor cat all of her life and she would stand at the door and howl until we let her out.  She has to come back.  I can't even think about the alternative.

The Ugly:

Me in a bathing suite in Vegas.  Not.  Pretty.  I want to start walking again but my back still hurts.  Will it heal eventually and stop hurting?  I mean it can't hurt forever, right?  Anyone with back injuries out there that have an answer for this one?

I know I had a lot of bad in there but this has been a hard few weeks.  Things will get better.

So let's hear your Good, Bad and Ugly.
